Sunrisers Hyderabad enter the IPL 2027 build-up with Pat Cummins as captain and Daniel Vettori as head coach. The final squad has not been set because the retention decisions and December mini-auction are still ahead. Until then, the best starting point is the group that finished IPL 2026, with temporary injury replacements kept separate.
SRH reached the 2026 Eliminator after winning nine of 14 league matches. Their batting produced three 500-run scorers, but Rajasthan Royals ended the campaign with a 47-run win. Hyderabad do not need a full rebuild. They need to preserve that batting core and improve their control with the ball.

Shivam Mavi, Jack Edwards and Brydon Carse withdrew during 2026. David Payne replaced Edwards, then withdrew with an ankle injury. Ambrish replaced Mavi, Madushanka replaced Carse and Coetzee replaced Payne. An injury replacement does not automatically become part of the following season’s squad.

Pat Cummins Is the Current SRH Captain
Pat Cummins remains the captain shown on the IPL team profile. He missed the first seven matches of IPL 2026, when Ishan Kishan led the side in his absence. Cummins returned for the second half, so Kishan’s spell was an interim arrangement.
Abhishek Sharma served as vice-captain during that phase. Any 2027 leadership change should only be treated as final after the franchise announces it.
Daniel Vettori is the current head coach. The 2026 support group included Simon Helmot, Hariesh Jaikumar, Varun Aaron and Muttiah Muralitharan. Support roles may change before the season.
What the 2026 Season Revealed About Hyderabad
SRH did enough over 14 league games to finish third with nine wins, five defeats and 18 points. Hyderabad then conceded 243 for eight in the Eliminator and were bowled out for 196 in 19.2 overs.
Hyderabad won five matches in succession during the middle of the season, then closed the league stage with victories over Chennai Super Kings and RCB. The run showed that the side could recover from a mixed start.
The sharper lesson came in the knockout. Rajasthan’s 243 showed that a wicket-taking attack still needs a reliable way to slow a batting surge.

Heinrich Klaasen led SRH’s 2026 run chart with 624. Ishan Kishan scored 602, while Abhishek Sharma added 563. Together, the top three produced 1,789 runs. Eshan Malinga took 20 wickets in 2026, the most for SRH. Sakib Hussain claimed 15 and Praful Hinge took 14. Their combined 49 wickets gave Hyderabad a young pace group with genuine wicket-taking value. Shivang Kumar added nine, while three players finished with eight wickets each.
Cummins played seven matches and took eight wickets. Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat brought experience, but the playoff showed how quickly a game can escape without a dependable control option. Hyderabad must decide whether their Indian quicks can fill that role for a full season.
Spin is the other area to examine. Zeeshan Ansari and Amit Kumar offer leg-spin, while Harsh Dubey bowls left-arm orthodox. SRH need a spinner trusted against set batters, not another option added only for depth.
