How IPL 2027 Points Will Be Awarded
The latest IPL playing conditions award two points for a win, one point to each team when a match ends without a result, and zero points for a loss or forfeited match.

A tied match is normally decided through a Super Over. One point each applies when the tie cannot be broken under the playing conditions.
How Teams Are Ranked When Points Are Equal
Points come first. If two or more teams finish with the same points, the team with more league-stage wins is placed higher. If their points and wins are equal, the team with the better net run rate takes the higher position.
This order matters when rain produces no-result matches. A team can collect points without adding a win, so another team with the same points but more victories may remain above it even with a lower NRR.
What Is Net Run Rate in the IPL?
Net run rate measures how quickly a team scores compared with how quickly it concedes runs across completed results.
NRR = team run rate scored minus team run rate conceded
A positive NRR means the team has scored faster than its opponents. A negative NRR means opponents have scored faster. Winning by a large margin usually improves NRR, while a heavy defeat can lower it sharply.
When a team is bowled out before using its full allocation, the NRR calculation treats it as having faced the complete quota of overs. Matches with no result do not normally enter the NRR calculation. DLS results receive separate adjustments under the IPL playing conditions.
How Many Teams Qualify for the IPL 2027 Playoffs?
The top four teams in the league table qualify for the playoffs. Finishing first or second offers an extra route to the final, while third and fourth enter an immediate elimination match.

The points table decides the four qualifiers and their playoff route. It does not decide the champion because the title is settled through the playoff matches and final.
How Many Points Are Needed to Qualify?
There is no fixed points total that guarantees an IPL 2027 playoff place. The cut-off depends on match results, no-results and how tightly the ten teams are grouped.
For that reason, claims that a team has qualified solely because it reached a familiar total from an older season can be misleading. Qualification becomes certain only when the remaining results can no longer push that team outside the top four. NRR often becomes important when several teams finish level on points and wins.

Once the tournament starts, every points-table update should match the visible match result. Positions, qualification marks and NRR should never be changed from reports or projected results before a game is complete.
