Gujarat Titans IPL 2027: Gill’s Finalists Prepare for Another Title Push

The latest player group shown by GT still belongs to the 2026 season. It is a useful starting point, but it must not be presented as a confirmed 2027 squad. Retentions, releases, trades and the December mini auction will decide which players are available when IPL 2027 runs from 10 March to 15 May.

The current reference point is the 25-player group displayed for IPL 2026, not a final Gujarat Titans 2027 squad. Old names should not be relabelled with a new year.

Connor Esterhuizen joined as an injury replacement for Tom Banton during IPL 2026, while Kulwant Khejroliya replaced Prithviraj Yarra. The franchise must confirm which contracts continue and which places return to the auction pool.

GT Are Fine Tuning a Finalist, Not Starting Again

Gujarat Titans reached three finals in their first five IPL seasons. They won on debut in 2022, finished runner-up in 2023 and returned to the final in 2026.

Their 2026 playoff route also showed both strength and vulnerability. GT lost Qualifier 1 to RCB by 92 runs, recovered by beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2, and then lost the final to RCB by five wickets. GT made 155 for eight before Bengaluru completed the chase at 161 for five.

That result points to a narrow 2027 question: where can one or two changes add runs without disturbing a strong core?

Gill and Sudharsan Give GT a Two-Engine Top Order

Shubman Gill scored 732 runs in IPL 2026 and Sai Sudharsan made 722. Only 10 runs separated the two leading GT batters across the season. Jos Buttler added 526, taking the top three to a combined 1,980 runs.

Gill supplies leadership and high-volume scoring, Sudharsan is a left-handed Indian anchor, and Buttler brings power, experience and wicketkeeping. Together, they cover several roles.

That strength also creates risk. An early collapse can expose the group below them. GT need a middle order that can recover from 40 for three as well as attack from 150 for two.

The Real 2027 Question Sits Below the Top Three

Washington Sundar’s 377 runs gave GT useful support in 2026, while Rahul Tewatia scored 190. The returns then dropped to Glenn Phillips with 67, Jason Holder with 65 and Shahrukh Khan with 43 on the team’s season statistics.

Lower-order players receive fewer balls, and some were not selected for every match. Even so, the distribution makes a finisher more relevant than another opener. A batter who handles spin through overs 8 to 14 and can close an innings would solve two situations with one place.

An Indian middle-order option would preserve overseas places for Buttler, Rashid, Rabada and a flexible fourth choice. Any overseas hitter must offer enough finishing value to change that balance.

A 102-Wicket Core Gives Gujarat Auction Flexibility

GT’s five leading bowlers collected 102 wickets between them in IPL 2026. Rabada led with 29, Rashid took 21, Siraj 19, Holder 17 and Prasidh 16. This was not an attack dependent on one bowler or one phase of an innings.

Rabada and Siraj can strike with the new ball. Prasidh provides bounce, Holder changes the release height and Rashid controls the middle overs. Sai Kishore, Washington and the Indian pace reserves add matchup options.

Unless releases break up this group, GT can use the IPL 2027 auction to strengthen the batting or buy a specific bowling skill instead of another headline quick.

Shubman Gill Leads a Settled Cricket Structure

Shubman Gill is the current captain, with Ashish Nehra as head coach and Vikram Solanki as director of cricket. Matthew Hayden joined as batting coach before IPL 2026. GT have not published a separate final coaching list for 2027.

Gill’s 2026 output shows that captaincy did not reduce his run production. His harder 2027 calls concern when Washington moves up, how Tewatia is saved for the finishing overs, and whether GT need an extra specialist batter.

Torrent Group controls the franchise with 67%, while CVC Capital Partners retains 33%. GT are based in Ahmedabad and play at Narendra Modi Stadium.

What GT Need to Settle Before the 2027 Mini Auction

The retention list will show whether GT back the same core for another run or make a visible batting change.

Four decisions deserve attention:

1. Separate permanent squad members from 2026 injury replacements. Connor Esterhuizen and Kulwant Khejroliya appeared in the latest group after replacing injured players, but only the official retention and auction documents can establish their 2027 status.
2. Protect the Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler structure. Their combined 1,980 runs formed the batting base. A new signing should support that structure, not duplicate it.
3. Add a middle-order role, not just another name. GT need someone who can rebuild after early wickets and accelerate when the openers bat deep.
4. Keep the bowling phases covered. The current attack has powerplay pace, middle-over spin and several wicket-takers. Any release must be judged by the overs it leaves uncovered.

Ahmedabad Home Matches and the GT Schedule

Narendra Modi Stadium is GT’s home ground, but the 2027 fixture list has not been released. Opponents, dates, start times and venues will appear on the IPL 2027 schedule and Narendra Modi Stadium page.

Pitch behaviour can vary across the season, so a pace-heavy side may suit one match and an extra spinner another. A fixed “best XI” before the auction and schedule would be guesswork.

GT’s short history already contains a title, two further finals and a captaincy transition from Hardik Pandya to Gill. The 2027 season will test whether the franchise can turn that early consistency into a second championship rather than simply adding more star names.
